SIKESTON - Invitations were received in Sikeston Wednesday to the wedding reception of Miss Betty Gross and James Paul Wallace.
CHARLESTON - Voters of the Texas Bend School District in Mississippi County, in an election held Tuesday, defeated a proposal to join the Charleston R-1 District, 42-21.
SIKESTON - Mayor Kenny Bridger presented a proclamation to Jaycee President Phil Black declaring the week of Jan. 15-21 as Jaycee Week in Sikeston. The mayor said the Sikeston Jaycees have been a vital part of the development of young leaders in this community for the past 50 years and the organization has contributed to the betterment of this community through its involvement in such programs as the Bootheel Rodeo, Sikeston Swimming Pool and Little League Football. The United States Jaycees were founded 64 years ago.
NEW MADRID - The luck of the draw can be either a friend or an opponent. Thursday night the Sikeston wrestlers found themselves as allies with the draw, while the New Madrid County Central Eagles weren't in a 61-10 win for the Bulldogs. "New Madrid is a very good team. It just worked out where we had our stronger wrestlers against their quality guys," said Sikeston head coach Marc Stevener. "We were able to pick up points in places they would liked to have won them."
