Mary Jo Smith

DEXTER -- Mary Jo Smith, 67, died June 28, 2002, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.

Born May 6, 1935, in Gray Ridge, daughter of the late Manual and Daisy Rusche Welch, she was a member of the Sweet Prospect General Baptist Church in Dexter and also attended the Word of God Church in Dexter. She retired as a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell.

She was married to Louie McCollough who preceded her in death.

On Sept. 5, 1972, she married Charles A. Smith who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Michael W. McCollough of Dexter; three stepsons, Chuck Smith of Bloomfield, Mike Smith of Advance and David Chad Smith of Dexter; three stepdaughters, Marie Oliver and Lisa Smith of Bloomfield and Kelley Edwards of Dexter; three brothers, Bob Welch of Dexter, Bill Welch of Huntsville, Ala., and Mike Welch of Hattiesburg, Miss.; and 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

One brother, George Welch, preceded her in death.

Graveside services were conducted today at the Dexter Cemetery with the Rev. Doyle Corlew officiating.

Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter was in charge of arrangements.
