Rodney Chambers

VERONA, Miss. - Rodney Lee Chambers, 51, formerly of Charleston, Mo., died unexpectedly May 27, 2002, at his home, of an apparent heart attack.

Born Nov. 4, 1950, in Sikeston, Mo., son of Billy and Bobbye Chambers of Charleston, he moved to Lee County 30 years ago. A 1968 graduate of Charleston High School, he was a member of the First Christian Church in Charleston. Chambers was employed for 21 years with Comcast Cable Company, where he worked in warehouse maintenance, and was a volunteer firefighter with the Verona Fire Department for 28 years. He received the Meritorious Award for saving a young child's life and was a member of the Gold Wing Club.

His wife, Beverly Daniel Chambers survives of the home.

Survivors in addition to his wife and parents include: one son, Billy Chambers of Verona; one daughter and son-in-law, Brandy Chambers and Anthony Johnson of Nettleton; one sister, Tracy Willoughby of Macon, Ga.; one brother, Kevin Chambers of Memphis, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.

Services were conducted Thursday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home in Verona with Dr. David Hamilton officiating.

Burial followed in Lee Memorial Park.

Past and present firefighters with the Verona Fire Department served as honorary pallbearers.
