Bessie Summers

DOWAGIAC, Mich. - Bessie Naomi Summers, 74, formerly of Dexter, Mo., died May 30, 2002, at the University of Chicago Hospital in Chicago, Ill.

Born July 26, 1927, at Dexter, she was the daughter of the late Walter Alexander and Allie Davenport Summers.

Survivors include: two sons, John Chappel of Dowagiac and Michael Chappel of Kalamazoo; two daughters, Deborah Smith and Rebecca Michael of Dowagiac; two sisters, Wilma Hyslop and Alfreda Reed of Dexter; and nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Carmen Summers and Farrell Summers; and three sisters, Lottie Riley, Dorothy Sneed and Jewell Summers.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at the Dexter Cemetery with the Rev. Phil Warren officiating.

Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter is in charge of arrangements.
