Leonard Scheffer

CHAFFEE - Leonard Lawrence Scheffer, 59, died at 10:44 a.m. July 18, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born March 11, 1943, in Charleston, son of the late Lawrence Edward and Adella Marie Heisserer, he had been a bricklayer for Ervin Eichhorn and later worked as a clerk for Rhodes 101 Stop in Chaffee. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, St. Ambrose Men's Club in Chaffee and Knights of Columbus Council 4311 in Oran.

Survivors include: six brothers, Fred Scheffer of Hermann, Michael Scheffer and Joe Scheffer of Cabot, Ark., Marion Scheffer and Patrick Scheffer of Chaffee and Martin Scheffer of Scott City; and three sisters, Beatrice Mashek of Scott City, Carolyn Crites of Chaffee and Theresa Simpher of New Hamburg.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Visitation begins at 4 p.m. Sunday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, where parish prayers at 7 p.m. will be followed by Knights of Columbus prayers at 7:15 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with the Rev. Ralph Duffner officiating.

Burial will follow in the Texas Bend Cemetery near Charleston.

Pallbearers will be: Brian Mashek, Bill Crites, Bobby Scheffer, Danny Simpher III and Jason Scheffer.
