MATTHEWS - Omer Wilson Sutton, 91, died at 10 a.m. Dec. 7, 2003, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born May 19, 1912, in Miner to the late Marcus H. and Ella Green Sutton, he was employed in farming.

His wife of 63 years, Elsie Pauline Rushing, survives of the home. The couple was married Oct. 2, 1937, at Matthews.

Other survivors include: two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joe Sutton of Matthews and Greg and Jane Sutton of Sikeston; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Bill Hannan of Trezevant, Tenn.; one grandson, whom they raised and his wife, John and Tonya Powell of New Madrid; and five other grandchildren, Brian Hannan of Atwood, Tenn., Terry Welch of Memphis, Tenn., Lathem Scott of Kansas City; and Ashley Sutton and Aaron Sutton of Sikeston; and three great-grandchildren, Kasey Powell and Jonathan Powell of New Madrid and Hannah Scott of Kansas City.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Meta Faye Powell, who died Sept. 18, 1997; six brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel where services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Donald Heitman, pastor of the Matthews Nazarene Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be: Gary Bixler, Wayne Welch, Paul Reed, Greg Thompson, Tony Hampton and Stephen Barbre.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Robert Sutton and Jim Sutton.
