Rodeo's Redneck Barbecue marks 10th anniversary

Sunday, August 1, 2004

Well, it's rodeo time again and the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the 10th Annual Redneck Barbecue.

This year's event will be held at the Clinton Building/Sikeston Sports Complex on Saturday, Aug. 14. The cooking activities in the adult category will begin around 6 a.m.

We have added a craft show this year that will be held in the Clinton Building from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The children's games will begin with cookie stacking about 10 a.m. Children's games will continue throughout the morning with potato sack races, potato golf, a puppet show and train rides. There will be a small fee for the train ride, but the rest of the games are free.

We will be hosting a "Redneck Dog Show" at 11:30 a.m., so dress up your canine best friend and come on out. The Civil War Reenactment group will perform again this year at 12:30 p.m.

We have added a children's barbecue contest for ages 7-13. The kids will be cooking burgers and/or boneless chicken breast and the judging for this category will begin at noon. The adult barbecue competitors will be cooking ribs, chicken and an item of their own choice called "wuz-at." Judging in the adult category will begin at 1 p.m.

There will be musical entertainment in the afternoon, beginning around 1 p.m. and we will conduct our annual "Chicken Chuckin' Contest" at 2 p.m.

There will be food concessions available throughout the day with proceeds going to many worthwhile organizations. While you are at the contest, be sure to check out the Chamber's barbecue sandwiches at our concession stand. Come on out and join in the fun Rodeo Saturday at the 10th Annual Redneck Barbecue.

To enter the barbecue contest, or for more information on our event or any other SACC event, contact us at 471-2498 or go to our Website at www.sikeston.net

We look forward to seeing you at the Redneck Barbecue.
