Charleston - Daisy B. Sutherland, 84, died at 5:30 a.m. May 14, 2004, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born April 7, 1920, in Maben, Miss., daughter of the late Robert and Mabel Barfield, she had lived in Charleston most of her life and was of the Protestant belief. An avid gardener, she had been actively involved in the Charleston Boy Scout and Girl Scout programs, taught in area schools and was later employed with the U.S. Post Office as a rural mail carrier until her retirement.
On July 24, 1946, she married Frank Sutherland Jr. who preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 1993.
Also preceding her in death were: three brothers, Jack Barfield, Robert Barfield and Wesley Barfield; and two sisters, Sarah Barfield and Margaret Palmquist.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, F.R. "Buz" and Tammy Sutherland of Charleston; one daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Pete Story of Charleston; one sister, Mary Ann Albrecht of Hemphill, Texas; one grandson, G.R. Story of Charleston, one granddaughter, Mary Margaret Yarbrough of Sikeston; and one great-grandson, George Marshall Story of Charleston.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Rodger Jespersen, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Charleston, officiating. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Richie Sutherland, Kent Sutherland, Charlie Harper, Rick Reed, Mike McIlroy, Brad Hequembourg, David Williams and Carl Bone.
