SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Invitational took place at the Sikeston Country Club on Monday, and the home squad was able to place second in the 14 team event.
Tanner Fritz tied for the fourth best round of the day with a 77, while Jonathan Spence and E.C. Atchison both checked in with 78s to tie for sixth.
Matt Bain rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs with a 79. "Our team shot some fine scores today," said Sikeston coach Rick Oetting. "We had four of our varsity members in the 70s today. Those are the scores we've been looking for to prepare us for district next week."
Poplar Bluff finished first with a team score of 302. Sikeston checked in at 312, followed by Jackson at 314, Dexter at 320, Farmington at 321, Cape Central at 323, St. Vincent at 325, Sikeston Black at 347, Kennett at 342, Clearwater at 354, Notre Dame at 362, Malden at 368, NMCC at 371 and Caruthersville at 405.
Poplar Bluff's Ben Brumett was the individual medalist with a two-over 73. Teammate Jake Robertson had the second best round at 74, followed by Jackson's Matt Litzelfelner in third place at 75.
Scoring for the Sikeston Black team were Martin Schaefer at 79, Ed Pike at 88, Jason Deere at 89 and Matt Hon with a 91.
Sikeston will have a match with NMCC on Wednesday, then will travel to Cape Central on Thursday for the final match of the regular season. District play begins next Monday.
"I feel we have a great chance to place in the top two teams at district so all the team can travel to state," said Oetting.
