DEXTER - Willis M. Burkhart, 67, died April 27, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.

Born May 29, 1934, in Edina, son of the late Milton and Mazy Goodwin Burkhart, he lived in Ute, Iowa, most of his life before moving to Dexter in 2001. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he was a retired truck driver and member of the American Legion.

On June 5, 2001, in Sioux, City, Iowa, he married Ruby Samples who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one stepson, Tom Sample of Poplar Bluff; one stepdaughter, Shirley Newman of Dexter; one brother, Cletus J. Burkhart of Springfield; one sister, Eva Fountain of Eldon; and three stepgrandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Kenneth Biggs of Dexter will officiate.

The Veterans Honor Guard of Poplar Bluff will conduct graveside military rites at the Dexter Cemetery.
