DEXTER - In the opening rounds of the Class L Tournament at Dexter, Jackson, Dexter and Cape Girardeau achieved wins. Cape Central handed Sikeston a 52-35 defeat.

SIKESTON - During the Sikeston Community Teachers Association monthly meeting Wednesday, five of the six R-6 Board of Education candidates spoke before approximately 150 teachers and school administrators. Candidates are: Robert Mitchell Jr., Rick Adams, Lois Cokenour, Robert Quandt, Dr. Jim Spence and Harvey Cooper.

GIDEON - Winners of the Young Miss Sweetheart contest held during the fourth annual Valentine Sweetheart Pageants at Gideon on Feb. 6 were: second alternate Amanda Kinchen, daughter of Andy and Paula Kinchen of Gideon; Queen Kelli Hall, daughter of Conway and Regina Hall of Hayti; and first alternate, Tabitha Miller, daughter of Ronnie and Penny Miller of Malden.

SIKESTON - Testing local well water samples for contaminants will be a part of the Farm Safety and Rural Health Clinic from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Kingsway Mall in Sikeston. The event is sponsored by the University Extension and Farm Bureau Women in response to a growing number of local inquiries from well owners concerned about the safety of their water system.
