Jean Whitson

SIKESTON - Joyce Imogene "Jean" Whitson, 68, died at 2:45 a.m. Oct. 22, 2002, at her home.

Born Dec. 18, 1933, in New Madrid County, daughter of the late James W. and Violet May Rhodes Lomax, she was a special education teacher with Sikeston Public Schools before retiring. She was a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and the Ladies Golf Association.

Her first husband, Robert Y. Dixon, preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1969.

She and William A. "Bill" Whitson were married July 31, 1982, in Sikeston, and he survives of the home.

Also preceding her in death were one son, James Robert "Jim Bob" Dixon; and one brother, Howard Lomax.

Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Wayne and Melinda Dixon of Sikeston; one daughter and son-in-law, Karla Jean and Ben Britt of Ballwin; one stepson and daughter-in-law, Alan and Bridget Whitson of Ballwin; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Melanie C. and Cliff Lankheit of Cape Girardeau; one brother, James V. Lomax of Memphis, Tenn.; four sisters, Pat White and Clodine Trail of Sikeston, Janet Ellen Jackson of Van Buren and Mildred Marble of Frankston, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Sherrie Dixon of Sikeston; and six grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Blanchard Funeral Chapel.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist church. The Rev. John Tarter, pastor, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
