DIEHLSTADT - Clyda H. Sanders, 97, formerly of Charleston, died at 3 p.m. Jan. 30, 2003, at the Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston.

Born Sept. 26, 1905, in Diehlstadt, daughter of the late Henry Crawford and Lee Demarius Stone, she lived in Charleston and Diehlstadt most of her life and was a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Diehlstadt. She and her husband had owned and operated Sanders Grocery in Diehlstadt and after moving to Charleston, they managed the Charleston Bus Station and Western Union office for many years. A member and past worthy matron of Charleston Chapter 122 Order of the Eastern Star, she had served as secretary/treasurer of the Maynard Cemetery Association.

On Dec. 24, 1923, she married Clyde Sanders who preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 1981.

Also preceding her in death were one son, Harry C. Sanders; one niece, Linda Ogle; and one nephew, Tom Cooper.

Survivors include: three nieces, Frances Welch of Diehlstadt, Kathryn Savage of Commerce, Texas, and Billie Russell of Charleston; and two nephews, Walter Cooper of Alpine, Utah, and Leonard Stone of Oklahoma City, Okla.

Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until service time at 11 a.m. at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. The Rev. Mark Odle, pastor of the Diehlstadt General Baptist Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Maynard Cemetery near Diehlstadt.

Pallbearers will be: Carl Welch, Lee Welch, Sam Babb, Boyd Pattengill, Bobby Chappel and Charlie Kuykendall.
