HOLCOMB - The second seeded Mustangs from North Pemiscot 10-runned Risco's Tigers Tuesday afternoon in the 1A District 1 Tournament.
North Pemiscot's Jeff Bogan threw four innings and collected five strikeouts while getting the win in the 10-0 ballgame.
Most of the Mustangs' damage came in the second inning as North Pemiscot batted around plating B.J. Flippo, Bryan Gore, Erik Camp and Brandon Massey.
Junior Luke Carter was the only shining light for Risco as he had one of Risco's three hits and he reached on an error. He was also one of the two players to get to third for the Tigers.
Carter, like his counterpart, collected 5 strikeouts in his four innings of work.
Bryan Gore was the offensive leader of the game for North Pemiscot as he went 3-3 with a walk and one run scored.
The Mustangs will next take on sixth seeded Gideon in the semifinals on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
CHAFFEE -- The first round of the 2A District 2 Tournament took place on Tuesday, with Notre Dame beating Crystal City 9-5, Woodland toppling Scott City 5-3, Grandview upsetting Chaffee 4-2, and Kelly whipping Charleston 11-1.
Derek Wheatley was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Garrett Stricker allowed five hits and one run as Kelly cruised past Charleston, 11-1.
"It was a good win for us," said Kelly coach John Gandt. "Our bats looked all right at Strick threw pretty decent. We made some mistakes we probably won't be able to make against Grandview, but overall it was a pretty good showing."
The Hawks plated the 11 runs on nine hits. Major Burger and Tyler Schlosser were both 2-for-2. Barry Zeigler and Stricker also contributed hits.
"It was good to see us hit all the way up and down the lineup today," said Gandt. "That is where we have struggled all year."
Charleston's Marcus Dixon was charged with the loss. Rhett Thompson paced the Bluejays at the plate, batting 2-for-2.
Dustin Smoot, Travis McCann and Ryan Ford also had hits. Kelly (8-10) will face Grandview today in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Schlosser is expected to get the start.
"I have a lot of confidence in him coming into tomorrow," said Gandt. "He should have a strong showing. His arm was giving him trouble halfway through the season, but now he's throwing stronger than ever."
Fourth-seeded Grandview kept its winning streak alive on Tuesday, upsetting second-seeded Chaffee 4-2. The Eagles have now won five straight.
"(Grandview) made the plays and their pitcher threw strikes," said Chaffee coach Brian Horrell. "They didn't really give us anything. We hit some balls hard, but they were right at people. You've just got to tip your hat to them. Unfortunately, they were the better team today."
Zac Horman was charged with the loss. He threw all seven innings for the Red Devils, allowing no earned runs, 11 hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
"Errors got us today," said Horrell. "(Horman) came in with an 8-1 record, and he pitched well enough to get the win."
At the plate, Brandon Davis and Brent Thomason were both 2-for-3. Horman, Sam Burnett and Andrew Horrell also had hits.
Grandview's Mark Barkton got the win. Offensively, Brian Dugan was 3-for-4. Greg Radosh and Tisher were both 2-for-3. Ricardo Pastranan was 2-for-2.
Grandview (8-8) will face Kelly today at 5 p.m. in the semifinals. Chaffee will lose three starters to graduation.
Top-seeded Notre Dame and eighth-seeded Crystal City were all knotted up at 2-2 in the fifth inning before Notre Dame's Kyle Dively opened the floodgates with a two-run homer.
Timmy Wencewicz also had a big day, batting 3-for-3.
The first round of the 2A District 1 Tournament took place on Tuesday. Second-seeded Portageville defeated No. 7 Campbell 9-1. Portageville's Danny Scherer got the win while Campbell's Dustin Shepard was charged with the loss.
No. 6 Senath-Hornersville pulled off a mild upset with a 5-4 victory over No. 3 Hayti. Senath's Jarrad Duffel was the winning pitcher and Hayti's Gurley got the loss.
No. 5 Malden also pulled off a mild upset, beating No. 4 Caruthersville 7-4. Malden's Kevin Smith got the win and Caruthersville's Matt Guy got the loss.
In the nightcap, No. 1 South Pemiscot blistered No. 8 East Prairie 17-6. Joseph Thurman started for the Eagles, but was forced to leave after a linedrive hit his elbow on the second pitch of the game.
Caleb Thurman came in and was eventually charged with the loss. South Pemiscot's Landon Crawford picked up the win.
Today, South Pemiscot will face Malden at 3 p.m., followed by Senath versus Portageville at 5 p.m.
Poplar Bluff nipped Cape Central 3-2 in the only 4A District 1 game on Tuesday. Today the Mules will face Jackson at 4 p.m. and Hillsboro will play Farmington at 6 p.m.
ORAN - All four high seeds advanced Tuesday in the District 2 Class 1A Tournament as Valle defeated Oak Ridge 19-9, Bell City beat Scott Central 13-3, and St. Vincent crept by Delta 3-1. Oran's Eagles also got a win as the Rebels forfeited their first round game do to other school activities.
Tyler Basler threw three innings for the win. He struck out four batters while allowing only four earned runs.
Steve Oberle and catcher Tyson Fallert were the two big hitters for Valle as both had three hits on the day. Oberle was 3-5 with an RBI and two runs scored while Fallert was 3-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Every Valle batter scored at least one run and in the first inning as the Warriors had eight runners cross the plate. Oak Ridge had seven errors in the contest while Valle pounded out 18 hits.
Valle will challenge number one seeded Oran today at 2:30 p.m.
Bell City's Dominitrix Johnson struck out six batters in three innings to collect the win. Ben Duncan hit his seventh home run of the season in the first inning as he blasted out a two-run shot. Duncan finished 3-4 on the day with four RBI's and three runs scored.
Junior Ty Brown added to his team high RBI total on the day as he drove in one and score two while going 2-4. Bell City will take on St. Vincent tonight at 4:30 p.m.
In the only non-ten run game on the day, St. Vincent's Dusty Cissell threw a complete game. Cissell whiffed 10 batters and did not allow an earned run.
Delta's senior Lance Kinder did not allow an earned run in six innings of work while striking out six and only working three.
