SIKESTON - Vote for Hess Porter for treasurer. Qualified and capable. Five years experience as assistant to present treasurer. Remember Joe Anderson for co-treasurer. He lives in Sikeston and needs a job bad.

BLOOMFIELD - Rep. Tom F. Baker of Essex climaxed a bitter battle with a coalition that backed his opponent and won his bid for nomination for re-election as Stoddard County's representative to the General Assembly by garnering 3,992 votes in the Democratic primary here Tuesday.

SIKESTON - According to unidentified sources, two notorious gangs of outlaws are planning to ride into Sikeston at 3:30 p.m. Monday to settle a feud over some horses. Front Street and Legion Park will be the site of this battle and downtown merchants are preparing for the big gunfight. A repeat performance of this battle (by members of the Scott County Sheriff's Posse) is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the same location.

NEW MADRID - Apparently, anti-incumbent fever hasn't hit New Madrid County voters. Sheriff incumbent Jake C. Rone easily defeated his four opponents to win the Democratic nomination. Second District Commissioner J.H. Workman Jr. was voted back into office and First District Commissioner Jim Cravens received the nod from Democrats, however, he will face Republican challenger Jesse Bartlett in November. Uncontested races were Jane Ellen Nunn, public administrator; Clyde M. Hawes, county assessor; Charles W. Ice, county surveyor; and Robert B. (Bob) Hedgepeth, county coroner. None of the committeemen or committeewomen for either party had competition for their posts.
