Red-hot Lady Hawks win again

MARBLE HILL -- Kelly's girls basketball team followed up its third consecutive Scott-Mississippi Conference Tournament championship with a win over Woodland on Monday night, 54-27.

The Lady Hawks jumped out to a 12-9 lead and never looked back, outscoring Woodland 16-6 in the second quarter, 14-4 in the third, then 12-8 in the fourth.

Christy Kluesner and Kelly Essner led the charge with 10 points each. Dana Essner, Cara Scherer and Ashley Kern each contributed eight points in the win.

For Woodland, Kandice Abner led the way with 13. On Saturday, Kelly won the Scott-Miss title over Delta, 39-30.

"We are very happy about the girls winning their third straight conference tournament," said Kelly head coach Rod McQuerter. "Tonight, the girls came out and played hard against a good Woodland basketball team."

Kelly (12-4) will travel to East Carter County for its next game on Saturday.

MORLEY -- Scott Central's girls basketball team ran its record to 10-2 on Monday night, beating Neelyville 66-57.

Janet Penrod scored 17 points for the Bravettes, followed by Jennifer Hoots with 16, Jackie Monroe with 12 and Brittany Godwin with 11.

Neelyville was led by Breonna Young with 28 points.
