Sharks place second in swim meet
CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston Sharks competed in the Gator Swim Meet Saturday in Cape Girardeau, placing second in a field of four teams.
The highlight of the day was several record setting performances by Shark swimmers, including five by Morgan Fraser.
Fraser set Sikeston Shark records in the girls 9-10 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 50 fly, 100 freestyle and 100 IM. She also placed first in all five events.
Natalie Stevens also set the Sharks record in the 8 and under 25 backstroke while the 11-12 boys 200 medley relay team and the 200 freestyle relay, made up of Sam Gleason, Gratten Allen, Mark Fraser and Jake Pewitt, also set team records. Both Stevens and the relay teams finished second in their respective events.
Winners for the Sharks were: Will Bloemer in the boys 6 and under 25 freestyle and 25 breaststroke; Joseph Hunter in the boys 6 and under 25 fly; Mary Liz Klueppel in the 6 and under 25 freestyle and 25 fly; Lauren Medley in the 15-18 100 breast; Joseph Henggeler, Austin Erwin, Timothy Moy and Benjamin Hunter in the 8 and under 100 free relay; and Conner Hamra, Kenneth Moy, Brady Colver and Jonathon Horton in the 9-10 100 free relay.
Cape Girardeau won the meet with 1,213 points. Sikeston came in second with 660.5, followed by Charleston with 476 and Dexter with 179.5.
The Sharks will be in action again on Saturday when they host the Sikeston Swim Meet.
