Charles Bethune

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Charles R. Bethune Jr., 69, died Feb. 1, 2003, in Jacksonville.

Born June 12, 1933, in Sikeston, Mo., son of Hazel Bethune of Charleston and the late Charles R. Bethune Sr., he attended schools in Sikeston and graduated from Sikeston High School. Bethune, who was of the United Methodist belief, retired from the U.S. Navy as a reutilization specialist and served in the Korean War. He was a member of Wessonnett Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies and was the current potentate of the Morocco Shrine Center.

His wife, Carole Bethune, survives of the home.

Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include: one son, Charles R. Bethune III of Jacksonville; one daughter, Kapriece Swan of Jacksonville; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Byron Moxley of Charleston; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service was conducted Feb. 5 at the All Saints Chapel of NAS in Jacksonville with U.S. Navy Chaplain Wayne Hatman, officiating and where full military honors and Masonic rites were conferred.

Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Jacksonville was in charge of arrangements.
