James Ross

ESSEX - James C. Ross, 77, died Jan. 25, 2003, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.

Born March 23, 1925, in Detroit, Mich., son of the late James P. and Eunice Corlew Ross, he was a member of the A.R.K. of Hope Church near Dexter. A retired farmer and businessman, he was a member of the Essex Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. He had served on the Citizens Bank Board in Dexter, Delta Memorial Hospital Board, was past president of the Essex-Grayridge Lions Club and was a former member of the Essex and Richland school boards. Ross had also served as a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America.

On June 22, 1947, in Dexter, he married Helen L. Christman who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, James Alan Ross of Chesterfield; one daughter, Pamela Ann Waggoner of Dexter; two sisters, Norma Kelley of Essex and Betty Swinger of O'Fallon; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Three sisters, Evelyn Baker, Gloria Lee Ross and Glenda Mae Ross, preceded him in death.

Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until service time at 11 a.m. at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. The Revs. Ernie Rogers, David Hardin and David Craig will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Essex Cemetery.
