Bill Tarrants

MATTHEWS - William E. "Bill" Tarrants, 88, died July 2, 2002, at Sells Nursing Home.

Born April 12, 1914, at Canalou, son of the late John L. and Linnie Bruce Tarrants, he had lived in Raymondville for the past 10 years and had spent most of his life in the communities of Canalou, Matthews of Morehouse. A farmer, he had operated a planer at Himmelberger-Harrison Manufacturing in Morehouse and was a member of the Faith General Baptist Church in Morehouse. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.

On Oct. 11, 1934, in Canalou, he married Opal Mae Lacy who preceded him in death on March 26, 1966.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Lavada Greer.

Survivors include: two daughters, Donna Curry of Morehouse and Marilyn Ceplina of Raymondville; three sons, Johhny Tarrants of Festus, Billy Tarrants of Houston and Michael Tarrants of Fenton; two brothers, Harold Tarrants of Morehouse and John S. Tarrants of Hartville; three sisters, Mary Appleton of Morehouse, Myrtle Donnaley of Peveley and Uneita Tarrants of Ellwood, Ind.; and several grandchildren and two-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Morehouse where services are scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Jerry Adams of Sikeston officiating.

Burial will follow in the Matthews Cemetery.
