Rex Shankle
EAST PRAIRIE - Rex Martin Shankle, 87, of rural East Prairie, died at 4:10 p.m. Jan. 16, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born Nov. 24, 1915, in Tipton County, Ky., son of the late Carry and Annie Mae Stiver Shankle, he lived in Mississippi County most of his life. He retired from Inland Oil and Transport Company and was a member of the Church of Christ in Charleston.
On April 16, 1939, he married Ruby May English who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Martha Shankle of Charleston and Eddie and Glenda Shankle of Bertrand; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Shirley and Walter Ivie of Charleston and Linda and Keith Moore and Betty Ivie of East Prairie; one sister, Rebecca Ross of Jacksonville, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, Rickie Ivie, Larry Ivie, Debbie Ivie, Phillip Sullivan, Angela Dodge, Eddie Shankle Jr., Camille Peters, Michelle Drury, Tommy Shankle, Ken Shankle, Kathy Renaud and James Shankle; and 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
One brother, Ralph Shankle, and three sisters, Rose Dorris, Ruby Scott and Ruth Rhinehart, preceded him in death.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at McMikle Funeral Home, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday. Daniel Bell, minister of the Church of Christ of Charleston and Bill Bradley, minister of the Church of Christ in Morley, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.
Pallbearers will be: Rickey Ivie, Larry Ivie, Phillip Sullivan, Eddie Shankle Jr., Tommy Shankle, Ken Shankle and James Shankle.
