Sonny Moylan
PORTAGEVILLE - Ernest R. "Sonny" Moylan Jr., 69, died Feb. 5, 2003, at the Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Born Dec. 30, 1933, in Portageville, son of the late Ernest R. and Stella Marie Hoggard Moylan Sr., he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Portageville. A 32nd degree Mason and member of Masonic Lodge 671, he served on the Portageville City Council from 1968-80 where he served as pro tem for eight of those years and was an avid Portageville School booster. He worked at Noranda Aluminum and at DAEOC for many years and was employed in the farming industry for many years.
An active member of the Democratic party, he and his family donated the land to form the Portageville heliport as a memorial to the Ernest and Stella Moylan family.
On Jan. 12, 1964, in Portageville, he married Margaret White who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Amy Moylan of Portageville; one daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Mark Underwood of Portageville; one sister, Deborah Moylan of Portageville; and two grandchildren, Sunnie Marie Underwood and Mark Ansel Underwood of Portageville.
His brother, Steven Ames Moylan, preceded him in death.
Visitation begins at 5 p.m. Friday at DeLisle Funeral Home, where Masonic rites are scheduled for 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Braden, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Robbie Barham, Neil Essary, Jim Bidewell, Butch Williams, Duane Moss and David Moss.
A host of friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.
