BENTON - The contract for modifications at the Scott County Courthouse including the installation of an elevator to bring the building fully up to Americans With Disabilities Act standards was awarded to the low bidder, Penzel Construction of Jackson.

Scott County commissioners made their decision during their Thursday session.

Penzel's bid of $205,900 beat offers from Gregory Construction of Jackson for $223,821 and from Bridger Construction of Sikeston for $428,771.

County officials hope to see the project started in mid-November. Pending the availability of the elevator, the contract requires the project to be completed within 120 days.

* The county commission will not meet Tuesday due to the election.
