CHARLESTON - Richard W. Whitehead, 53, died at 11 a.m. Jan. 18, 2003, at the Bertrand Retirement Center.

Born Dec. 13, 1949, in Mississippi County, son of the late William C. and Lucy Pauline Farmer Whitehead, he was a lifelong resident of Charleston and member of the United Methodist Church.

He married Judy Smith who survives of Charleston.

Other survivors include: one son, Spencer Clayton Whitehead of Charleston; one daughter, Abby Elizabeth Whitehead of Charleston; nine brothers, Charles D. Whitehead of Jefferson City, William C. "Bill" Whitehead of Emporia, Va., Frank Russell Whitehead of Richmond, Va., Arthur Jesse "Art" Whitehead of Memphis, Tenn., George Irvin Whitehead of Olean, James F. "Jim" Whitehead of Wyatt, John David Whitehead, Benjamin A. "Ben" Whitehead and Robert A. "Bob" Whitehead of Charleston; and three sisters, Carla Jo Knaup of Cape Girardeau, Jennye Wedeking of San Diego, Calif., and Nancy Risko of Ocean Springs, Miss.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Gerald Collier, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Charleston and Bill Bradley, minister of the Church of Christ in Morley, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.

Pallbearers will be: Leo Schott, Steve Moore, Charles Tinsley, Johnny Hodges, Reginald Young and Glenn Quertermous.
