PORTAGEVILLE - Joe A. Moore, 89, died Oct. 26, 2002, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born May 31, 1913, in Tiptonville, Tenn., son of the late Joe and Effie Robinson Moore, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Portageville. He was chief of police at Portageville from 1945 until retiring in 1989 after serving in that position for 44 years. He then went to work with the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department and Plastene Supply Company, where he was employed at the time of his death.

On Feb. 11, 1933, in New Madrid, he married Helen Glascock who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Denny Walsh of Sacramento, Calif.; one brother, Roy Moore of Tiptonville; two sisters, Myrtis Stanley of Tiptonville and Ann Jones of Memphis, Tenn.; one grandson, Sean Joseph Walsh of Sacramento; one great-grandson, Jack William Walsh of Sacramento; his goddaughter, Linda Rogers of New Madrid; and a special friend, Shelia Glastetter of Portageville.

Visitation begins at 4 p.m. Tuesday at DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville.

Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Hershel Godair and the Rev. Wayne Tribble officiating.

Burial will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Jake Rone, Ronnie Adams, Freddie Hill, Terry Stevens, Bud Slaughter and Denis Young.

Honorary pallbearers will be: members of the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department and the Portageville Police and Fire Departments.
