Alvie Crabtree
ELLSINORE - Alvie O. Crabtree, 93, died Jan. 13, 2003, at Three Rivers Healthcare South Campus in Poplar Bluff.
Born June 3, 1909, in Obion County, Tenn., son of the late Eugene Henry and Dessie Huey Crabtree, he lived in St. Louis for many years and was a resident of Dexter from 1972-2000. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he retired from Carter Carburetor and was a member of the Southwest Church of the Nazarene in Dexter.
In 1941, he married Adell Smothers who preceded him in death in 1959.
He and Thelma Boone were married March 4, 1961, in Bernie, and she survives of the home.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Diane Hamilton of Williamtown, Charlotte Newman of Ellsinore and Doris Elsworth of Earlville, Ill.; two sons, Phillip Wood of Bakersfield, Calif., and Keith Crabtree of Florissant; one brother, E.S. "Dobe" Crabtree of Elsberry; one sister, Lorell Murphy of Dexter; and 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, Ervin Crabtree, Cam Crabtree and Arch Crabtree; and one sister, Lavern Hampton.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, where services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Preston Palmer of Poplar Bluff will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter.
