Agnes Hopke
SCOTT CITY - Agnes Wilhelmina Kjer Hopke, 98, died at 8:20 p.m. March 14, 2002, at the Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Dec. 8, 1903, in Graysboro, daughter of the late Axel Tycho Kjer and Hannah Grant Davis, she had been a riverboat cook. She was a member of Illmo Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher. She and her husband owned and operated the Kroger store and then operated the IGA store in Illmo until his death. She received her teacher's certificate in 1924 and was a teacher at the Illmo Grade School.
On Aug. 11, 1925, she married George Adolph "Doc" Hopke, who died on May 30, 1955.
Survivors include: one son, Yense A. Hopke of Austin, Texas; one sister, Fanny Kjer of Scott City; and one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City with the Rev. Dennis Bell officiating.
Burial will follow in Lightner Memorial Cemetery.
