Golfers down Notre Dame

SIKESTON -- Sikeston's golf team won its fourth dual of the season Thursday, toppling Notre Dame at the Bootheel Golf Club 165-175.

Sikeston's Jonathan Spence was the medalist, firing a three-over-par 39. He was followed by Tanner Fritz at 40, E.C. Atchison at 43 and Matt Bain at 43.

"We're still fighting the cold weather," said Sikeston coach Rick Oetting. "We just can't catch a break for golf weather."

Notre Dame's Adam Fenwich paced the Bulldogs with a 41, followed by Tim Buerik at 43, Paul Unterraner at 45 and Adam Rigdon at 46.

"Next week will be a big test for our team," said Oetting. "We will see tough competition at the Bluff Invitational and then we travel to Jackson for a tri-meet with Jackson and Cape on Jackson's home course."

The junior varsity won 177-200. Jason Deere led the Bulldogs with a 43, followed by Ed Pike at 44, Martin Schaefer at 44 and Zach Bell at 48.

Notre Dame scorers were John Obermark (48), Tyler Menz (49), Tyler Banken (51) and Clayton Eftink (52).
