Lela Hart
NEW MADRID - Lela Powell Hunter Hart, 86, died May 16, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born April 14, 1916, in Hough, daughter of the late Robert W. and Susie M. Woodward Hunter, she was librarian for the New Madrid County Library for 20 years. A member of the United Methodist Church and UMW in New Madrid, she was also a member of the Friends of the New Madrid Museum.
A direct descendant of the Hunter-Dawson Home family, she grew up in East Prairie. She married Harry Thomas Hart on Nov. 25, 1935, and they moved to New Madrid. Her husband preceded her in death in 1963.
Survivors include: one son, Harry Thomas Hart Jr. of Manchester; two daughters, Anne H. Dial and M. Kay Sides of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Susie Aycock of East Prairie and Ruth Wilson of Sikeston; one brother, Robert Hunter of East Prairie; and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Three sisters and three brothers also preceded her in death.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Richards Funeral Home.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jon Thompson, former pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
