Dorothy Holifield

POTOSI - Dorothy M. Holifield, 85, formerly of Bloomfield, died May 15, 2002, at the Potosi Manor Nursing Center.

Born Oct. 5, 1916, in rural Bloomfield, daughter of the late John E. Harris and Letha McPheeters Holifield, she taught for the Bloomfield School District and other school systems in Stoddard County. A former member of Sadler Chapel Methodist Church in Dexter, she was a member of the Irondale United Methodist Church and was presented the Meritorious Service Award from the Southeast Missouri Teachers Association. A 50-year member of the Bloomfield Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, she was a former board member of the ARC Board and West Antioch Cemetery Association and former member of the Stoddard County Historical Society.

On April 21, 1946, at Bloomfield, she married E.B. Holifield who preceded her in death on July 17, 1987.

Survivors include: two sons, John Robert Holifield of Irondale and James Bradford Holifield of Davenport, Iowa; and two grandchildren.

Six brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, where services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Linda Zych, officiating.

Burial will follow in the West Antioch Cemetery near Bloomfield.
