Finding appropriate punishment for "dad"

Tuesday, April 23, 2002

"Each link in the drug chain should pay many years of punishment and it should not be pleasant"

I am sickened by the news report this week that a 39 year-old Phoenix man - while under the influence of the hallucinogen PCP - had bitten off his 2-year-old son's thumb. The man initially claimed that he bit off the thumb in an attempt to mix his son's DNA with his own. But in yet another sickening twist, the man coughed up the thumb while at the police station six hours after the attack.

The child was found wandering alone near the trailer park entrance where they lived. Doctors were unable to reattach the thumb.

So what is appropriate punishment for this scumbag? Let me give you a hint - there is none that could match the savagery of the crime. Society is incapable of inflicting punishment to match this crime because it would involve parts of the body that are not mentionable in polite circles. You get my drift!

Here's what I think police should do. They should put the man behind bars until he tells them where he obtained the PCP. And then they should go to the dealer who sold the drug and bring him to jail. The dealer should then tell police where he obtained the drug. Police should do this until the point where they uncover the ultimate source. Then the fun should begin.

Each of these scoundrels should never see the light of day again. The father should automatically relinquish the title of father and have no contact with his scarred child forever. If there is a mother around, she too has much for which to answer.

Each link in the drug chain should pay many years of punishment and it should not be pleasant. Any lawyers who represent these scum should be held to public ridicule and scorn. And action by any legal service to aid in their defense should be viewed with utter contempt.

The father should remain in prison for life. And every fellow convict in that prison should be made aware of his dastardly act against the child. In the end (pun intended), the prisoners will offer the appropriate form of punishment.
