ANNISTON - J.W. Coke, 86, died at 8:18 p.m. Feb. 23, 2002, at the East Prairie Nursing Center.

Born July 15, 1915, in Bell City, son of the late Frank and Ella Kittle Coke, he lived in Mississippi County most of his life. A retired mechanic and U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was of the Pentecostal belief.

In 1948, he married Eleanor Abbott Coke who preceded him in death in 1986. He married Shirley Ann Allen Coke, and she died on Nov. 29, 1994.

Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Franklin and Linda Coke of Anniston and Richard Lee and Tammy Coke of St. Louis; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ruth Coke and Victor Gentry of Houston, Texas; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home, where services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burl Britt, of the Full Gospel Church in East Prairie, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Anniston Cemetery.
