SIKESTON - While some 10,000 spectators shivered in snow and sleet flurries and icy winds, a reenactment of the Civil War battle, "The Seige of New Madrid" which took place 100 years ago on the north edge of town, was presented by area Missouri National Guard units here yesterday afternoon.
BENTON - Residents here will vote on a non-binding referendum seeking opinions from citizens on the purchase of newer firefighting equipment and two positions on the town board.

BLODGETT - Two aldermen for two-year terms and one alderman for a one-year term are to be elected at Blodgett. No candidates have filed for either of the positions and the posts may be filled by write-in votes.

ESSEX - The moves on the court won his awards. The move from Dexter to Essex got him to Richland High School. And that's where Ronnie Patterson's basketball and pastime blossomed into an all-state career. "I like it here. I wouldn't leave this school now for anything," said Patterson, who was named to the first team of the Class 1A All State team today.
