Earl M. Walker
PORTAGEVILLE - Earl McCall Walker, 77, died Nov. 11, 2003, at the Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems in Hayti.
Born Feb. 13, 1926, at Blytheville, Ark., to the late Elizabeth Buck Walker and Daniel Earl Walker Sr., he was owner and operator of Earl Walker Mechanical Contractor and served as an alderman and mayor of the city of Portageville. A member of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean conflict, he was also a member of the Rotary Club and of the First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school classes.
On March 6, 1949, in Portageville he married Frances Louise Bass, who preceded him in death on Nov. 14, 1998. Also preceding him in death were one son, Steve Allen Walker, who died Nov. 7, 1973; one daughter, Sherri Ann Scherer, who died March 28, 1998, and his granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Scherer, who died March 28, 1998.
Surviving are: two sons, Rodney Walker of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Randy Paul Walker of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister, Melba Benton of Bryant, Ark., and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. today at the DeLisle Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Inman officiating.
Burial will be in the Portageville Cemetery.
