Velma Oldham

EAST PRAIRIE - Velma Oldham, 88, died at 12:35 p.m. April 15, 2002, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Oct. 27, 1913, in East Prairie, daughter of the late Herman and Floye O'Dell Smith Daniel, she lived in East Prairie all her life where she was a member of the First Christian Church. Before retiring, she had worked as an aide at the Martin Elementary School, was a secretary for Shelby Funeral Home and had also worked at the Susanna Wesley Learning Center.

Her first husband, William Thompson "Bill" Oldham, preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1962. She later married Lea Roy "Hoover" Oldham and he died on March 8, 1985.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Clarence "Salty" Daniel.

Survivors include: one niece, Kelly Brenner of Jefferson City; two great-nieces, Koren Brenner and Lindsey Brenner of Jefferson City; one great-nephew, Cole Brenner of Jefferson City; and one sister-in-law, Betty H. Daniel of Jefferson City.

Visitation begins at 6 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday. Fred Girdwood will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie.

Pallbearers will be: Tim Parker, Aaron Scott, Chris Oatsvall, Roger Murphy, Ricky Penrod and Teddy Bennett.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Bob Lancaster, Jerry Wilson, Arden Banks, Lonnie Thurmond and Darrell Revelle.
