SIKESTON - March of Dimes Chairman Charles Bethune announced $311.15 was donated by Sikeston residents for the fight against polio.

SIKESTON - Charles Godwin, owner of the Charleston Electric Co., is in satisfactory condition at Missouri Delta Community Hospital. He is recovering from major surgery.

SIKESTON - Warmer temperatures brought youngsters to Malone Park to play today.

EAST PRAIRIE - It won't be a winless season for the East Prairie boys basketball team after all. Nineteen games into the season, the Eagles picked up their first win Monday by defeating Risco 63-57. East Prairie is now 1-18, dropping Risco to 3-18.

SIKESTON - Thousands of U.S. Bureau of the Census workers are still busy compiling information from the forms returned to them. In Sikeston, the 5-24 age range boasts the highest number of people (5,787). The 25-24 group is a close second, with 5,103 members. Not surprisingly, 85 and older comes in last, with only 239 members. The city has 14,577 while residents, 2936 black, 95 Hispanic, 48 American Indian and 40 Asian.


SIKESTON - This year's Kenny Rogers Cerebral Palsy Telethon has much to offer, promising to be the best yet, officials said. The 12th annual event will be hosted by television's Jay Thomas and Wild Rose.
