Vernon Cooper
BLOOMFIELD - Vernon Robert Cooper, 87, died March 7, 2002, at the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bloomfield.
Born Aug. 21, 1914, at Zadock, son of the late Charlie and Victoria Pope Cooper, he was a retired construction worker and livestock farmer. He was a member of the Oak Ridge General Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for more than 60 years.
On Aug. 15, 1940, near Swinton, he married Vercie May Dunivan who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: four daughters, Mildred McClain, Linda McRoy and Velma White of Bloomfield and Janet Abernathy of Advance; three sons, Milford Cooper and Larry Cooper of Bloomfield and Gary Cooper of Advance; and nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were four brothers, Norman Cooper, Vader Cooper, Floyd Cooper and Eldon Cooper; and four sisters, Myrtus Carney, Elva Mann, Geneva Cooper and Erma Hester.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday. Officiating will be his son-in-law, Kenneth White, and Gary Cooper.
Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery near Zadock.
