Dorothy Tibbles

CAPE GIRARDEAU - Dorothy L. Tibbles, 81, died Sept. 9, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Born April 11, 1921, in St. Louis, daughter of the late John Paul and Louise Dorothy Messmer Weis, she graduated in 1939 from Beaumont High School in St. Louis. She had been a secretary for the General Cable Corporation in St. Louis and was then secretary for the Winnelson Company in Cape Girardeau until retiring in 1985. A member of Hanover Lutheran Church, she was also a member of the SEMO Boosters Club, SEMO Foundation, Copper Dome Society, Humane Society of Southeast Missouri, Otahki Girl Scout Council, Cape Girardeau County Republican Women, American Legion Auxiliary Post 63 and SEMO Arts Council. She was past president of Lorimier School PTA, past member of the PTA Council of Cape Girardeau and former leader of Girl Scout Troop No. 1.

On Feb. 2, 1946, at St. Louis, she married Raymond E. Tibbles, who preceded her in death on March 30, 1995.

Survivors include: one daughter, Gail P. Hennecke of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, Chris A. Smith of Cape Girardeau and Jaclyn G. McMahel of Ocoee, Fla.; and one great-grandson, Tyler J. McMahel.

Two brothers preceded her in death.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Hanover Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Sippy officiating.

Entombment will follow at the Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
