POPLAR BLUFF - The Sikeston Little League All-Stars nipped the Poplar Bluff Greens, 4-0 Tuesday night in the championship game of the Poplar Bluff Invitational Tournament.

DEXTER - Five people were injured in an apparent tornado Thursday afternoon and another was injured by lightning, according to Dexter Police Chief Steve Fish.

EAST PRAIRIE - Granting of a package liquor license for Casey's General Store, proposed for construction on Washington Drive, was delayed for a two-week period on request of ministers present at Thursday's City Council session. City Attorney Hense Winchester explained that the city has no choice in issuing the license (two are available) if the state approves Casey's application. Stating guidelines are set by the state, he advised those present to go before the State Liquor Control Board at Cape Girardeau to state their objections. The ministers requested the two-week delay so they could approach the state board.

SIKESTON - Southwestern Bell Telephone, represented by Donna Burk, community relations director, has contributed to the Mississippi County Industrial Development Authority. June Majors, IDA co-chairman, accepted a donation recently from Burk. IDA has initiated a promotional drive, highlighting the assets of the county with a goal of securing new jobs.
