Longtime Sikeston business owner Rick Brandom dies

SIKESTON - Sikeston businessman Richard Land "Rick" Brandom, 70, died June 11, 2003, at his home.

Born May 3, 1933, in Kansas City, son of the late Thomas Martin and Mary Doak Smithpeter Brandom, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He received a bachelor of arts degree at William Jewell College in Liberty, master of business administration degree at Washington University in St. Louis and his doctorate of juris prudence from the Cumberland School of Law.

A businessman since 1972, Brandom owned and operated Hutter Oil Company in Sikeston and was a member of the Missouri Oil Jobbers Association, Petroleum Marketers of America and the National Association of Convenience Stores.

On July 27, 1968, in Quincy, Ill., he married Ellen Campbell Hutter who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: his daughter, Mary Ellen Brandom of Quincy; his son, Mark R. Brandom of St. Louis; and one sister, Jane Heilbron of Overland Park, Kan.

Two brothers, Thomas Martin Brandom Jr. and William S. Brandom, preceded him in death.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Dempster Chapel of the First United Methodist Church, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Bill Koch, senior pastor and the Rev. Sandra Schaller, associate pastor, will officiate.

Entombment will take place on Monday at the Ebenezer Cemetery in Carrollton.

Pallbearers will be: Scott Brandom, Robert Dean Brandom, Robert Johnson Brandom, Richard H. Heilbron Jr., Thomas M. Brandom III, and Randy York.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Robert Hutter, Bob Scott, Loring Helfrich, John Rogers, Michael L. Couch, Loren Miller, Joe Blanton Jr., Richard H. Heilbron Sr., Bob Sterling and Bob Fleming.

Nunnelee Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
