Emma Rowe
EAST PRAIRIE - Emma Jo Rowe, 78, died at 4 a.m. March 27, 2002, at her home.
Born May 8, 1923, at East Prairie, daughter of the late Aaron D. and Magdalene Vaughn Givens, she had lived all her life in East Prairie where she taught school since age 18, teaching in the East Prairie R-2 School System for 30 years. Before teaching in East Prairie she also taught in the Barnes Ridge, Rush Ridge and the Walnut Grove communities. She was a member of the First Christian Church in East Prairie where she was active in the Ladies Bible Study Class. She was also a member of the Women's Improvement Club of East Prairie.
On Nov. 13, 1942, she married Ray R. Rowe who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Dennis and Debbie Rowe of Pacific; and three grandchildren, Jeffrey Rowe and Jonathan Rowe of Memphis, Tenn., and Aaron Rowe of Pacific.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Givens; and one sister, Billie Lee Powers.
Visitation will begin after 6 p.m. Friday at Shelby Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church, with the Revs. Fred Girdwood and Martin Lucas officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery.
