Shirley Wheatley

EAST PRAIRIE - Shirley Wheatley, 66, died at 4:30 p.m. March 26, 2002, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, Ill.

Born April 27, 1935, in Anniston, son of the late Clyde and Fannie Mae Griffith Wheatley, he was a lifelong resident of Mississippi County and member of the First Christian Church in East Prairie. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and served as sergeant in the Korean War.

On Oct. 6, 1956, in Corinth, Miss., he married Marjorie Mae Dodge who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons, Terry Lynn Wheatley of East Prairie and Clyde Anthony Wheatley of Sikeston; and five grandchildren, Jerry Christopher Wheatley of Nashville, Tenn., Brandon Lynn Wheatley, Jessica Blythe Wheatley, Stephen Anthony Wheatley and Trevor Lee Wheatley of Sikeston.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday. Fred Girdwood and Martin Lucas will officiate.

Burial will follow in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
