Mary Aline Delk
BERTRAND - Mary Aline Delk, 85, died at 10:06 a.m. June 9, 2004, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born Oct. 24, 1918, in Mississippi County to the late James and Hazel Lane Cogdill, she had lived in Mississippi County her entire life. A member of the Bertrand United Methodist Church, she and her husband owned and operated Delk's Grocery in Bertrand for seven and half years. Then she worked for Ferrell's Market in Charleston for 10 years and for the Piggly Wiggly in Sikeston for 30 years, retiring in 1993.
On July 17, 1937, she married Harold Vance Delk, who died on Feb. 21, 1954, in an airplane crash along with their son, Jackie Dale Delk.
Surviving are: one son, Harold Delk Jr. of Bertrand; two daughters, Mary Alice Kirk of Charleston and Grace A. Wilkerson of Bertrand; three brothers, George Cogdill of Charleston, Harold Cogdill of Champaign, Ill., and Bill Cogdill of East Prairie; and 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Also one special friend, Loretta Ray, survives.
In addition to her husband and son, also preceding her in death were one son, Bobby Lee Delk; four brothers, James Floyd Cogdill, Eugene Cogdill, Frank Cogdill and Mervin Cogdill; two sisters, Oline Stopher Laughlin and Opel Cogdill; and one grandson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston and at the United Methodist Church in Bertrand from 9:30 a.m. Friday until time for services at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Lois McRill, pastor of the Bertrand United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Rick Lasley, pastor of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Sikeston, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Bryan Wilkerson, Derrick Wilkerson, Dale Wilkerson, Wade Wilkerson, Jacob Wilkerson and Brad Boswell.
