PORTAGEVILLE - Anita Pennington of Union City, Tenn., was crowned the 1983-84 National Soybean Queen at a pageant Saturday night in the Portageville High School auditorium.
SIKESTON - The Silent Auction Solicitations Committee for the 1993 Hospital Ball finalized their plans for the Oct. 30 event. Members of the committee include Linda Glaus, Elizabeth Wilson, Gayle Green, Kim Wilcox, Melanie Moore, Debbie Keenan, Carolyn Strom, Beth Marshall and Janie Kaiser. Proceeds from the auction will go to a scholarship fund.

SIKESTON - A 9:45 p.m. Friday grease fire in a fryer at Jay's Fried Chicken didn't keep the business from serving breakfast Saturday morning. According to owner Lynn Lancaster, the damage was cleaned up fairly quickly. The Sikeston Department of Public Safety responded.
