DEXTER - B.A. Promotions, Inc., of Dexter is proud to announce the new directors for the 2003 B.A. Sports Show-Me Showcase.

Former coaches Ed Arnzen, Ron Cook and Lennies McFerren have joined the Showcase staff. The Showcase is a college tryout for area high school juniors and seniors, as well as junior college freshmen and sophomores. College coaches from throughout the Midwest will be in attendance to hopefully recruit help for their team. This is the third Showcase.

This year's event has been moved to Cape Girardeau, and a women's division has been added. The Showcase has also be moved to the fall to enable the colleges to follow their prospective recruits throughout the season.

The Showcase will take place on Saturday, Sept., 27 at the Student Rec Center on the campus of Southeast Missouri State. Brad Aycock, owner of B.A. Sports and creator of the event, sees this as a great opportunity for the area's youth.

"We are very excited about this year's event. With the addition of the three directors, the new location, and a women's division, the Showcase will be bigger than ever. Coach Arnzen, Coach Cook and Coach McFerren bring over 90 years of experience to the table. This is the best, and in some cases the only opportunity for area kids to be noticed," said Aycock.

Hall of Fame coach McFerren is excited to be involved with an event to help the kids.

"It is a very big honor to be able to help kids with something of this magnitude. The area kids have been overlooked throughout the year. I'm thrilled to death to serve at this capacity," said McFerren.

Former Southeast coach Arnzen recently retired after more than 30 years in education. In 1990, he led his team to the Division II national championship game where they finished second. Coach Arnzen feels like this is a great opportunity for anyone within the five state area.

"My experience over the years has shown me that kids get scholarships because they are seen. Due to the rural areas within this region, and the lack of time, college recruiters don't get an opportunity to watch these kids enough. This event is a tremendous opportunity to play in front of a number of college coaches," said Arnzen.

Coach Cook recently retired from the top spot for the Jackson Lady Indians. He will bring 439 wins and 29 years of experience to the Showcase.

"Our area has needed this for a long time. We have had great talent for many years. This will be very beneficial to the players in the area. They can be noticed in the fall and watched throughout the season," said Cook.

Aycock encourages anyone who has dreams of going to college and playing basketball to take a chance and participate.

"Not everyone in southeast Missouri gets an opportunity to go to college for whatever reason. This will make it convenient on everyone," said Aycock.

Fans are encouraged to attend. The first games begin at 10 a.m. Their will be four courts going simultaneously. A slam dunk and three-point competition will take place around noon. For more information, go to bapromotions.com, or call (888) 887-8482.
