SIKESTON - A prisoner of war Christmas program broadcast from Berlin last Friday revealed to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Tate of Smith Addition that their son, Sgt. Lawrence Tate, who was reported missing in action in Germany Nov. 8, is safe. Mr. and Mrs. Tate have not been informed by the War Department officially as yet, but they received 25 letters from short wave listening fans from 11 states that they had heard the broadcast of their son's voice and relaying the message.

SIKESTON - Sikeston 's Karlos Draper led the Bulldogs into today's Bloomfield Tournament quarterfinals. The 'Dogs, 2-4 after Saturday's opening round win over Dexter, play 6-2 Malden at 4:30 p.m. Other quarterfinal matchups include Twin Rivers-Kennett at 6 p.m. Bloomfield-Bernie at 7:30 p.m. and Puxico-Neelyville at 9 p.m.
SIKESTON - Officers from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety Fire Division responded to a car fire at 8:13 a.m. today at the intersection of North Ranney and Wakefield streets. According to reports, individuals were attempting to start the car when the starter fluid ignited.

SIKESTON - Releasing its Christmas weekend statistics, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported one fatality, 24 accidents with 24 injuries and 17 DWI arrests for Troop E. The counting period began at midnight Friday and continued through Monday.
