DEXTER - Earl Vernon Carroll, 74, died Aug. 13, 2003, at the John J. Pershing Veterans Administration Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

Born April 20, 1929, at Harviell, son of the late Roy Jasper and Edna Lucinda Dickens Carroll, he was a lifelong resident of Southeast Missouri and lived in Dexter for the past 14 years. He was an elementary through high school teacher before retiring, a bus driver and distributor of Watkins Products. A member of the Bible Way Fellowship Church in Dexter, he was also a member of the Puxico VFW, Dexter Elks Lodge and Missouri Retired Teachers Association. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On Dec. 30, 1950, in Piggott, Ark., he married Margaret A. Keller who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, William Duane and Relda S. Carroll of Essex; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna Sue and Elgy Lee Brown Jr. of Sikeston; one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth Ray and Donna Greeson of Overland; one sister and brother-in-law, Loretta Carolyn and Howard Hager of Harviell; six grandchildren, Leonard Carroll, Clorinda Carroll, Jeremy Carroll, Jason Pinkley, Cody Pinkley and Amber Leeper; and five great-grandchildren, Skie Pinkley, Katie Pinkley, J.T. Pinkley II, Paige Pinkley and Harlie Leeper.

He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Earl Carroll on June 25, 1992; and two brothers, Virgil Franklin Carroll and Roy Leonard Carroll.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, where services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Karen Oldham of Dexter will officiate.

Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
