Effie Stephens

McGee - Effie C. Stephens, 82, died March 25, 2002, at her daughter's home in McGee.

Born May 14, 1919, at Fair Oaks, Ark., daughter of the late William "Bill" and Effie Wells Wymer, she was postmaster at McGee for 27 years and a member of Shady Dell General Baptist Church. She and her husband owned and operated the Stephens Store in McGee for 40 years.

On Feb. 11, 1937, at Zalma, she married Elza Stephens who preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1995.

Survivors include: one son, James Allen Stephens of McGee; two daughters, Lucille Andrews of McGee and Marie Sue Roberts of Poplar Bluff; one brother, Norvell Wymer of Hickory Ridge, Ark.; one sister, Almeda Bennett of McCrory, Ark.; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Four sisters and one brother also preceded her in death.

Visitation is from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance, where services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday.

Burial will follow in the New Hope McGee Cemetery near McGee.
