EAST PRAIRIE - Lorene Thornton, 82, died at 4 a.m. Aug. 31, 2003, at her home following a brief illness.

Born Dec. 16, 1920, at Bertrand to the late George and Hattie Vanpool Graham, she had lived in East Prairie most of her life. She was a retired sales clerk with the Dollar General store in East Prairie.

In January 1940, she married Louis Evans Thornton, who preceded her in death Aug. 15, 1967.

Survivors include: two sons, Carl Louis Thornton of Wildwood and William Clyde Thornton of Corpus Christi, Texas; three grandchildren, Sheri Schomburg of Wildwood, Kim Rovin of Wentzville and Kare n Thorton of Silver Springs, Md.; and two great-grandchildren, Brenna and Hannah Schomburg of Wildwood.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Elmer Graham; and three sisters, Bertha Triplett, Joyce Garrett and Rayola Graham.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday with James Bolden officiating.

Burial will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: J.E. Triplett, David Triplett, Larry Garrett, Michael Garrett, Ron Schomburg and Jay Rovin.
