Ruby Laird
CAIRO, Ill. - Ruby G. Laird, 94, formerly of Charleston, Mo., died at 12:48 a.m. March 11, 2003, at her daughter's home near Cairo.
Born May 5, 1908, in Benton, Ky., daughter of the late John L. and Mallie Barnett Gaither, she and her husband owned an operated a confectionery story in St. Louis for 25 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Cairo.
On Jan. 17, 1925, she married Clyde T. Laird who preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 1987.
Survivors include: one son, Ralph Laird of Riviera Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Myrtle Wolford of Cairo, Martha Reiff of Christopher and Doris Wray of Titusville, Fla.; and 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by six brothers, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. Thursday until service time at 1 p.m. at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, Mo. Stephen Wolfe, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Mounds, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
